Primary Project

DCS offers a Tier 2 social emotional intervention called Primary Project. This intervention is an evidence based program that was developed by the Children’s Institute in 1957. The program helps children in Kindergarten through second grade adjust to school, gain confidence, social skills, and focus on learning. Through child led play, Primary Project addresses children’s school adjustment difficulties and increases their chances for success.

All students in Kindergarten through second grade are screened for selection of eligibility for the program, which is free and voluntary. Students meet with the Child Associate for 30 minutes per week for 12-15 weeks to increase skills for success. For further information about Primary Project please visit https://www.childrensinstitute.net/research/primary-project or speak with the Primary Project program supervisor at DCS, Kristen Nowakowski.
