Sareer Fazili
Vice Chair
Sareer is an attorney with over 28 years experience handling personal injury matters and serving as a neutral mediator and arbitrator. He serves on a number of local non-profit boards including Barakah Muslim Charity, a local food pantry that provides re-entry and other services to one of America’s most underserved communities; and is currently the President of Pittsford Youth Services, an organization focused on providing mental health services to Pittsford’s families and students. He is the past president of the Islamic Center of Rochester and immediate past President of the Monroe County Bar Association. He looks forward to continuing to support Discovery’s efforts in educating Rochester’s youngest students!

Monique Franklin-McDuffie
My name is Monique Franklin-McDuffie. I was born and raised here in Rochester New York. I have a Bachelor in Science in Computer Science from St. John Fisher University. I understand and lived the challenges that our community faces when it comes to education and poverty, and with God leading every step I take, I stride to make a difference in the lives of our future leaders.
LaQuisha T. Bridges
LaQuisha T. Bridges prides herself in being a Mother of 3 biological children and the host parent for 2 international children. She is a graduate of BrockPort State University with a BSc. in Criminal Justice. LaQuisha is currently the Director of Social Services at a Long Term Care Facility in Rochester, NY she is also a dual business owner of Q and C Photography and Catering. Her most rewarding roles within the community is that she is a Gospel Radio Personality on www.rSPIRIT.online and the Praise and Worship Ministry Leader at the Greater Harvest Church in Rochester New York.
Joyce M. Johnson
My name is Joyce Johnson. I am a new Trustee. I am the Vice President of Accounts Receivables at the Urban League of Rochester. I am entering my 24th year at the Urban League. I look forward to serving the staff and The Discovery Charter School.
Sara Varhus, Ph D.
Sara has retired from her position as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Nazareth College. She has also served on the boards of the Friends of the University of Rochester, the Friends of Women’s Rights National Historical Park, the Oswego County Humane Society and the Girl Scout Council of Central New York. A member of the DCS Board of Trustees since 2011, she is committed to academic success and personal achievement for all DCS students.
Christian P. Wilkens
Christian P. Wilkens is an Associate Professor at the State University of New York, Brockport. He completed graduate work at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and the University of Mississippi. He taught in Mississippi and Alaska before relocating to New York, and had the distinct joy of completing an administrative practicum with students, teachers, and administrators at Discovery Charter School. He is the Chair of the Board’s Academic Excellence Committee.
